Top 10 Attractions in and around Fleet1 - Fleet Pond
Fleet Pond is the largest fresh water lake in Hampshire and the nature reserve has 54.6 hectares (135 acres) of varied habitats for the enjoyment of the local community. The pond itself occupies about half this area. The picturesque 21.4 hectare (53 acres) water was recorded in Saxon times as 'Fugelmere' and supplied fish to the monks of St. Swithins (now Cathedral) at Winchester. The surrounding land features many rare habitats including heathland, woodland, reedbed and marsh. Because of the variety of habitats, visitors may see any of the 180 kinds of birds, 26 types of butterfly, 21 species of draginfly and 400 wild flowers many of which are nationally or internationally important. Location 2 - Odiham Castle A former strong-hold for King John, Odiham Castle is a ruined castle situated near Odiham, approximately five miles from Fleet. It is beautiful area, located on the Basingstoke Canal and River White-water. Location 3 - Basingstoke Canal and the tourist centre, Mychett Basingstoke Canal runs from Greywell, where the canal runs into a 3/4 of a mile tunnel that has collapsed, to the Wey Navigation in Surrey. Mychett Canal Centre is a popular park and cafe which is close to Frimley Lodge, a large park with many popular children's play areas, a model railway, barbecue facilities. 4 - West Green House, Hartley Wintney
West Green House is an 18th Century manor house in Hartley Wintney, about 3 miles out of Fleet. It is run by the National Trust and is a wonderful place to visit, as the gardens have been developed and our now one of the top 50 gardens in the country. There are many events throughout the year.
